Saemidori – Premium Shincha

Saemidori (meaning “clear green”) is a 1991 Japanese cultivar – a cross between the popular Yabukita and the delicate Asatsuyu. Known for its low astringency and pleasant sweetness, Saemidori is particularly prized for crafting high-quality Gyokuro. Because it’s not frost-resistant, it thrives only in southern Japan – the very region where this Shincha is grown. The dark green, fine-textured leaves brew into a rich, umami-filled cup – a must-try for green tea lovers. Brewing suggestion: Steep 1–2 minutes at 60–70 °C, using 5–6 heaping teaspoons per litre.
